Q&A: Cost of labor for air conditioning repair?
Question by lins0043: Cost of labor for air conditioning repair? I live in a rural area in the midwest and was just wondering about how much an hour an air condition repair person charges for labor per hour. Thanks! Would the price be different if they were unable to fix it? We thought we just needed freon but when he came out he told us there were some leaks so we told him to fix it. It worked for about 2 days and then stopped. They want to charge us 0 for the work even though it isn't fixed. Best answer:

They usully charge a flat fee for the first half hour….if they cannot fix it by then you will still have to pay the fee for them to show up and tell you what is wrong. If they have no clue what is wrong after a half an hour and cannot provide a solution and a cost estimate then they might not be an air conditioner man after all. He might just be a guy who is driving around in a van collecting money for showing up places. I wouldn't pay him anything unless he has a valid diagnosis at the very least. I would say after the initial fee it's anywhere between and an hour.

69$ just to show up at your house. Then 79$ an hour, plus cost of material +mark up +Tx.
$95 trip charge + $75 per hour labor + parts. Make them come back and fix it before you pay them anything.
$90 dollars for the call then $70 per hour
Labor charges vary from one company to the next but typically they will run anywhere from $75.00/hr to $125.00/ hr. Most companies today use a flat rate pricing guide for repairs. That means that a particular fix will cost a set amount of money and includes the labor and the parts in the charge. If your unit was working when they left but has failed after only two days, they probably did not find and fix all of the leaks and the refrigerant has simply leaked out again. It is possible that some other part has failed since they made the repairs. There are a number of reasons why the unit has stopped working. Contact the service manager for the company that did the repairs and tell him/her what is going on. They may send the same technician back since he is already familiar with your system and knows where the leaks were. You can always request that a different technician be assigned to the job if you feel that the first one didn’t perform the job properly.
